Q What are the differences between timber frame and masonry built housing?
A Actually, a lot less than you might think. Masonry houses use the same roof, floor and non-load bearing wall construction as timber framed housing. So really the only difference is the construction of the external wall and the one or two ground floor load bearing walls.

Q Does Timber Framed housing have the same design life as masonry?
A All housing in this country is built to the same durability standards. If this wasn’t the case the lending Institutions would differentiate between the various forms of construction. Lenders do not differentiate, demonstrating their satisfaction about the suitability of timber framed housing as security for long term loans over many generations.

Q Are the warranties the same for timber frame and masonry?
A Yes they are. The same warranty cover is provided by NHBC and Zurich, irrespective of the type of construction. The number of warranty claims relating to timber frame housing, however, is much less than masonry. This is testimony to the quality of timber-framed housing.

Q Does Prestoplan use timber from a renewable resource?
A Yes. All of Prestoplan’s suppliers of timber products carry either SFI, FSC or PEFC certification. Prestoplan endorses the UKTFA’s environmental policy and this is reflected in our procurement procedures.
