Part
E “Resistance to the passage of sound”
All timber framed buildings rely on finishes applied to
walls and floors to provide acoustic resistance.
There are a number of solutions available and the
excellent UKTFA publication “Resistance to
the passage of sound” is a good reference
document for those seeking to develop their own
solution to Part E.
Prestoplan’s recommended detail is included
in the company’s “Design Principles” manual and is recognised as a "Robust Detail".
The relevant Robust Detail number is E-FT-3 for PresWeb joists in separating floors.Click the link below to view the relevant pages.
Robust Detail E-FT-3
Clients also need to be aware that there are a
number of situations were robust Details cannot be applied.
These include room in the roof, vertically stepped
party walls, terraces and buildings without masonry cladding. Clients who wish to build
designs with these features may wish to consider
testing with a view to submitting new candidate details to Robust Details Ltd.
Party walls remain unchanged and comply
with Robust Detail construction.
House floors are required to meet a 40 dB Rw laboratory rating for Part E compliance. There are two options.
22 mm Chipboard, 252 mm PresWeb joist without insulation and 15mm ceiling plasterboard (Test code V13249A) or
18 mm Plywood, 252 mm PresWeb joist with 100 mm of 10 kg/cu m insulation and 15mm ceiling plasterboard (Test code V13250A). To refer to the test evidence click the link below.
